授業の目標と概要 |
There are two main aims of these lectures - one is to learn historical aspects of Artificial Intelligence,
and the second - to make you practice English. To make lectures more interesting, I concentrate not
on dry theories and given algorithms, but on great thinkers from Leonardo Da Vinci to Marvin
Minsky and their influential ideas, famous inventions and challenges of AI researchers from all over
the world. All this will be illustrated by pictures and videos which also become the base of micro-
quizzes by using Clicker™ technology.

You need more than basic English skills, although I will try to add Japanese words to the difficult
technical and scientific terms on my slides. If you don't feel confident with your comprehension or
writing skills, bring a dictionary, although please don't use it when speaking and during the final
exam. If needed, there will be a short summary of the previous lesson in Japanese language. I will
also prepare sheets for quizzes and short essays or reports.

到達目標 |
After finishing the course you are supposed to have extended knowledge about the past and present
of Artificial Intelligence, most famous researchers and their ideas. As for English, you should learn
new technical terms and build self-confidence in understanding and using the language even if it is
used for explaining scientific contents.

成績評価方法 |
There will be homework (JP-EN translation / essay / EN-JP translation) after three first lectures and a
written exam during the last hour of the last (fourth) lecture. Each of them will be scored 25 points
maximum and you need 60 points of 100 total points to pass. Active students will be awarded extra
points during the lectures.

Feel free to ask questions anytime. Speak loudly and don't be afraid of doing mistakes. Pay attention
and take notes, they may become handy during quizzes and for writing reports. It will be easier for
you if you have a look at them and check their meaning beforehand, for example in Japanese
Wikipedia. I hope my lectures will not only improve your listening, talking and writing in English,
